ENDOCRINE SURGERY
Due to the intenisve cooperation with the Department of Nuclear Medicine and the II. Department of Internal Medicine, endocrine surgery is an important division of our surgical department, mainly focused on the following:
- thyroid gland and
- parathyroid gland and also
- endocrine tumors of the pancreas and the adrenal glands.
Endocrine surgery also offers minimally invasive procedures. In the last 5 years 569 surgical procedures of the thyroid gland and 74 operations because of a hyperparathyroidism were performed.
The implementation of an intraoperative neuro-monitoring has optimized the localisation and preservation of the vagal nerves. This applies in particular to recurrent procedures and the surgical therapy of thyroid cancer.
The implementation of the intraoperative parathormone quantification has increased the quality of surgery of the parathyroid glands and decreased its invasiveness.
